Lake Powell '10

Last week Sam and I took off on our annual Lake Powell trip with his family. Well, half of them anyways. The fam is so big that they have to split over 2 different weeks and you can choose which week you want to go. This year was a little different. we decided on the less crowded week which meant that we actually got to stay in a room inside the houseboat!! (as opposed to sleeping on the top deck like we have in the past) it was seriously awesome! We were there with Sam's sisters Mary and Amy (and their families) and Steve and Sarra.. it was a fun group!

This year's was also different because it just so happened that on the first day of activities, i ended up spraining my foot/ankle really bad in a wipeout during wakeboarding. i couldn't walk for 3 days so we had to get a lil creative on what activities i could do. it was still fun to ride in the boat for those first couple days watching everyone wakeboard, surf, etc.. we also did a little kayaking and a LOT more jet skiing (partly bc i couldnt stand up to do anything else, and partly bc not as many people were there, leaving the jet skis available whenever we wanted them) it was AWESOME!

When the time came to hike Hole in the Rock like we normally do, sam told me he didn't want me to re-injure my foot.. soo sam (offering his moral support) and i sat this one out while the others went on without us this year. (oh darn!! hehe) but it was still fun to hang out in the boat with dad r. and for sam to do a lil wakeboarding while they hiked.. after they were done, we rode out to some other canyons that i'd never been to before. we did a small hike up to see some indian ruins and rode on the see this neat arch. both were pretty cool. it was fun to do some new stuff for a change.. later on, i decided my foot was well enough to try some wake surfing mostly bc there are no bindings for the board and i knew i wouldn't be putting that much weight on my bad foot. after a couple tries, i finally got it down and it was soo fun! i am definitely going to be doing that again. I think sam really loved the surfing this year too. He got so good at it! His wakeboarding also improved a ton! way to go babe!! even with an injured foot, this year's trip turned out to be so awesome! thanks dad r. for everything! we are already looking forward to next year! :)

Life with Max

I figured it would be fun to write a little post about the pup. :) Max has gained 2 lbs since we've been to the vet and is now a whopping 7 lbs! hehe.. should only get up to about 10-12 lbs and he is well on his way. so as of lately, he has stopped chewing on everything in sight which is nice.. he now loves bathing in the sunlight that shines through our window, cuddling up in blankets or towels or anything big and soft, and rolling around in the grass (especially the day after we bathe him, ha).. he also LOVES to play fetch and tug of war with sam when he gets off work.. anywho, here are some fun pics of him..

i spy max..... barely. haa:

sam says max always thinks to himself.. "i conquer this human"

my dog is a cat. at approximately 5:30 every evening for about an hour, he sunbathes:

he loooves that blanket:
hehe playing with his "blanky.." i tied it around his waist and it took him 10 minutes to get it off:
stuck in the sleeve(its actually an old shirt of mine).. i have to admit. it was actually me who got him stuck:
posing for the camera:

i dont know how i got this pic.... it was mid-shake, lol:
favorite spot:
haha so after a pretty long walk one day, we got inside, i went into the kitchen, then a few minutes later, i came back around and found this. he was half asleep. it was hilarious:

4th of July

This year, we had a pretty uneventful independence day. here in denver, we don't have relatives close by like we have had in years past while in utah and texas. AND it ended up storming pretty much from 4 in the afternoon on.. the only thing we did that was festive was sit down to a nice american dinner with steve and sarra, then had a few friends over for a yummy fruit pizza that i had made for the occasion (and that sarra and stephanie helped decorate). on a side note, i must have bad luck with ovens or something because anytime i ever turn any oven on to the broiling temperature, the fire alarm goes off. no matter what apartment i'm in. and this time it happened. twice. so we opened the windows and patio door and ended up just chillin while listening to the rain for the rest of the evening. not to worry tho.. the dinner turned out great. and the fruit pizza was definitely a hit. i think it should be a tradition from now on....

corn on the cob and ribs. the all-american dinner. yesss:
the lovely patriotic fruit pizza.. thanks hollijo for recipe for the filling! it was delish!
Happy 4th of July y'all! even though we didn't have many plans, it was still fun to hang out with friends and some family. hopefully next year we will plan better for a far more eventful holiday. lol..

Trip to Grand Lake/Winter Park, CO

Over father's day weekend, we took a four day trip to meet Jeff and his fam, and Dad R. n Patricia out in the mountains. Grand Lake, CO was where we were camping, just a little past Winter Park (this cute little resort town).. Jeff met us there with his motorhome then Dad met up with us the next day. we WERE planning on just taking tents to stay on the campground's tent area but nearly froze to death that first night!! even fully clothed with double blankets our teeth were chattering all night long! our puppy was shivering within 2 minutes of being inside his kennel so we (sam, me, and max) cuddled up and just tried to survive the night. it was awful. but of course, kinda funny after the fact lol.. i'm sure it got down to freezing or below because we woke up to frost on all the grass outside. we definitely checked into one of the campsite's cute little cabins for the next two nights and it made the WORLD of difference. nice heater blowin all night. :) Anywho, our long weekend consisted of mountain biking, hiking, 4-wheeling, shopping, and an awesome alpine slide. unfortunately, i didnt get pictures of all the events but we did have a blast. here are many that i did get....

chillin by the RV.

...with shelby and jessie, these girls are serious crack up's:
our cozy little cabin..... complete with two teenagers and a dog, lol:

loved all the views of the mountains out there.. it was all very picturesque:

max started shivering while we were out walking around so sam came up with a good plan to keep him warm while we hung out with the fam that evening hehe:
ridin the RV to Winter Park:

the original plan was to play disc golf down the mountain at Winter Park.. unfortunately the course was closed? considering all you need is open area, not sure how you can close the course lol:
so we did the Alpine Slide, trampolines, and hiking instead:

taking the lift all the way to the top. now this is the way to hike if you ask me.... dont have to even worry about going uphill first haa:

yes that is snow behind us..
